Beginning SQL

* Author(s) : Paul Wilton and John W. Colby
* Publisher : Wrox
* Year : Mar 2005
* ISBN 10 : 0764577328
* ISBN 13 : 9780764577321
* Language : English
* Pages : 528
* File type : PDF
* Size : 3.6 MB (book + source code)

This book starts right from the basics with databases and SQL. Prior database or SQL knowledge is not necessary, as this book covers everything from database design to creating your first database and understanding how the SQL language is used with databases.

If you have some previous experience with databases and SQL, then you’ll have a head start and you may want to just skim Chapter 1. You’ll need to follow its instructions for creating the book’s example database, as this is used for all the examples throughout the book.

This book will look at Structured Query Language, or SQL as it’s usually abbreviated. SQL works with a database to create the database and to insert and extract data. Therefore, it’s essential to understand the theory and concepts behind database systems. Hence, this book also covers database theory and database design, so that you’re equipped to create an effective database.

The SQL code in this book reflects the modern SQL standards set by organizations such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Standards Organization (ISO). However, while standards are great, what’s available for practical use is what really counts. This book, then, concentrates on the sort of SQL supported by most modern database systems. You should that find most of the code runs with little or no modification on most database systems released within the last six or seven years.

TABLE OF CONTENT:

1. Chapter 01 - Introduction to SQL
2. Chapter 02 - Entering Information
3. Chapter 03 - Extracting Information

Information Science

Author: David G. Luenberger
Publisher: Princeton University Press
Language: English
Number of Pages: 440
PDF: 1.76 MB
ISBN-10: 0691124183
ISBN-13: 978-0691124186

From cell phones to Web portals, advances in information and communications technology have thrust society into an information age that is far-reaching, fast-moving, increasingly complex, and yet essential to modern life. Now, renowned
scholar and author David Luenberger has produced Information Science, a text that distills and explains the most important concepts and insights at the core of this ongoing revolution. The book represents the material used in a widely acclaimed course offered at Stanford University.

Drawing concepts from each of the constituent subfields that collectively comprise
information science, Luenberger builds his book around the five "E's" of
information:
Entropy, Economics, Encryption, Extraction, and Emission. Each area directly impacts
modern information products, services, and technology--everything from word processors to digital cash, database systems to decision making, marketing strategy to spread spectrum communication.

To study these principles is to learn how English text, music, and pictures can be
compressed, how it is possible to construct a digital signature that cannot simply be
copied, how beautiful photographs can be sent from distant planets with a tiny battery, how communication networks expand, and how producers of information products can make a profit under difficult market conditions.

The book contains vivid examples, illustrations, exercises, and points of historic
interest, all of which bring to life the analytic methods presented:
*Presents a unified approach to the field of information science
*Emphasizes basic principles
*Includes a wide range of examples and applications
*Helps students develop important new skills
*Suggests exercises with solutions in an instructor's manual

Programming .NET 3.5

O'Reilly Media, Inc. (August 5, 2008)
PDF | 476 pages | English | 6.35mb(rar)
Programming .NET 3.5/by Jesse Liberty (Author), Alex Horovitz (Author)

Description
.NET 3.5 will help you create better Windows applications, build Web
Services that are more powerful, implement new Workflow projects and
dramatically enhance the user's experience. But it does so with what
appears to be a collection of disparate technologies. In Programming
.NET 3.5, bestselling author Jesse Liberty and industry expert Alex
Horovitz uncover the common threads that unite the .NET 3.5
technologies, so you can benefit from the best practices and
architectural patterns baked into this newest generation of Microsoft
frameworks.

While single-topic .NET 3.5 books delve into Windows Presentation
Foundation and the other frameworks in greater detail, Programming .NET
3.5 offers a "Grand Tour" of the release that describes how the four
principal technologies can be used together, with Ajax, to build modern
n-tier and service-oriented applications. Developers have struggled to
implement these patterns with previous versions of the .NET Framework,
but this hands-on guide uses real-world examples and fully annotated
source code to demonstrate how .NET 3.5 can make it easy. The concepts
and technologies that this book covers include: XAML -- Microsoft's new
XML-based markup language for UI, used with WPF Windows Presentation
Foundation (WPF) -- a new presentation framework and graphics subsystem
for Windows that puts Vista-like effect in your grasp Ajax Windows
Communication Foundation (WCF) - a new standards-based framework that
enables applications to communicate across a network using a variety of
protocols Workflow Foundation (WF) -- framework for defining, executing,
and managing workflows CardSpace -- framework for managing the
identities of your users You'll learn how to useeach of the four
frameworks alone and in concert to build a series of meaningful example
applications. Examples are written in C#, and all of the source code
will be available for download at both the O'Reilly and the authors'
site, which offers access to a free support forum. Between them, authors
Jesse Liberty and Alex Horovitz have nearly forty years of experience in
delivering commercial applications for companies such as Citibank,
Apple, AT&T, NeXt, PBS, Ziff Davis, and dozens of smaller organizations.
Their combined experience is valuable for telling the story of .NET 3.5
and how it will shorten the development life cycle for applications
developers, and enhance your productivity.

Robert Kiyosaki - Cashflow Quadrant: Rich Dad's Guide to Financial

Robert Kiyosaki - Cashflow Quadrant: Rich Dad's Guide to Financial
Freedom (2000)

This guide to financial freedom will reveal why some people work less,
earn more, pay less in taxes, and feel more financially secure than
others. It is simply a matter knowing which quadrant to work from and
when. If you've ever wondered why some people make it financially while
others struggle all their lives, this is the book for you. It is a book
written for people who are ready to move beyond job security and begin
to find their own world of financial freedom.

A large part of Kiyosaki's teachings focus on generating passive income
by means of investment opportunities, such as real estate and small
businesses, with the ultimate goal of being able to support oneself by
such investments alone. In tandem with this, Kiyosaki defines "assets"
as things that generate cash inflow, such as rental properties or
businesses—and "liabilities" as things that generate cash outflow, such
as house payments, cars, and so on. Such definitions are somewhat based
on the concept of negative gearing. He also argues that financial
leverage to be critically important in becoming rich.

Cashflow Quadrant is a personal finance and investing book written with
Sharon Lechter, C.P.A. as the sequel to Rich Dad, Poor Dad. In it,
Kiyosaki discusses what he calls the cashflow quadrant: a grid
consisting of the letters "E", "S", "B", and "I". The cashflow quadrant
itself is just an illustrative tool to show the difference between
Employees, Self Employed/Small Business owners, Business owners (not
directly involved in the day-to-day operation of the company), and
Investors. Kiyosaki discusses the differences between concepts and ideas
characteristic of each quadrant, particularly as they relate to passive
income and tax advantages. Again, as a self-help author, he invites
readers to consider their own ideas about money.

Kiyosaki speaks often of what he calls "The Cashflow Quadrant," a
conceptual tool that aims to describe how all the money in the world is
earned. Depicted in a diagram, this concept entails four groupings,
split with two lines (one vertical and one horizontal). In each of the
four groups there is a letter representing a way in which an individual
may earn income. The letters are as follows.

* E: Employee — Working for someone else
* S: Self-employed or Small business owner — Where a person owns his own
job and is his own boss.
* B: Business owner — Where a person owns a "system" of making money,
rather than a job to make money.
* I: Investor — Spending money in order to receive a larger payout in
return.

FireWall Howto

A firewall is a structure intended to keep a fire from spreading. Building have firewalls made of brick walls completely dividing sections of the building. In a car a firewall is the metal wall separating the engine and passenger compartments.

Internet firewalls are intended to keep the flames of Internet hell out of your private LAN. Or, to keep the members of your LAN pure and chaste by denying them access the all the evil Internet temptations. ;−)

PHP Manual

Abstract
PHP, which stands for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor" is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. Its syntax draws upon C, Java, and Perl, and is easy to learn. The main goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated webpages quickly, but you can do much more with PHP.

This manual consists primarily of a function reference, but also contains a language reference, explanations of some of PHP's major features, and other supplemental information.

You can download this manual in several formats at » http://www.php.net/download-docs.php. More information about how this manual is developed can be found in the 'About the manual' appendix. If you are interested in the history of PHP, visit the relevant appendix.

UML Distilled

UML Distilled

Second Edition

A Brief Guide to the Standard Object Modelling Language

Now widely adopted as the de facto industry standard and sanctioned by the Object Management Group, the Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a notation all software developers need to know and understand. However, the UML is a big language, and not all of it is equally important. The award-winning first edition of UML Distilled was widely praised for being a concise guide to the core parts of the UML and has proved extremely successful in helping developers get up and running quickly. UML Distilled, Second Edition, maintains the concise format with significantly updated coverage of use cases and activity diagrams, and expanded coverage of collaborations. It also includes a new appendix detailing the changes between UML versions.

Written for those with a basic understanding of object-oriented analysis and design, this book begins with a summary of UML's history, development, and rationale and then moves into a discussion of how the UML can be integrated into the object-oriented development process. The primary author profiles the various modeling techniques in the UML--such as use cases, class diagrams, and interaction diagrams--and describes the notation and semantics clearly and succinctly. He also outlines useful non-UML techniques such as CRC cards and patterns. These descriptions are made even more relevant with a collection of best practices based on the primary author's experience and a brief Java programming example demonstrating the implementation of a UML-based design. With this tour of the key parts of the UML, readers will be left with a firm foundation upon which to build models and develop further knowledge of the Unified Modeling Language.

Technologies for Home Networking

Technologies for Home Networking | 2008 | PDF | 3.18 MB

A broad overview of the home networking field, ranging from wireless technologies to practical applications

In the future, it is expected that private networks (e.g., home networks) will become part of the global network ecosystem, participating in sharing their own content, running IP-based services, and possibly becoming service providers themselves. This is already happening in the so-called "social networks" and peer-to-peer file sharing networks on the Internet—making this emerging topic one of the most active research areas in the wireless communications field.

This book bridges the gap between wireless networking and service research communities, which, until now, have confined their work to their respective fields. Here, a number of industry professionals and academic experts have contributed chapters on various aspects of the subject to present an overview of home networking technologies with a special emphasis on the user as the center of all activities. Coverage includes:

Networked home use cases and scenarios
Media format, media exchange, and media interoperability
Location-aware device and service discovery
Security in smart homes
Secure service discovery protocol implementation for wireless ad-hoc networks
Multimedia content protection in consumer networks
Mobile device connectivity in home networks
Unlicensed mobile access/generic access network
Wireless sensor networks in the home
Ultra-wideband and sensor networking in the home environment

With a balanced mix of practice and theory, Technologies for Home Networking focuses on the latest technologies for speedier, more reliable wireless networking and explains how to facilitate workable end-to-end solutions from a user's perspective. This book is an ideal resource for practicing engineers, designers, and managers with an interest in home networking and also serves as a valuable text for graduate stud
